VIM...Mission Trips: More than just a Trip!!

             VIM....Mission Trips to Colombia...or Anywhere.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” – Acts 1:8

Since the days of John Wesley, mission and service have been vital components of the principles ascribed to by members of The United Methodist Church. The Volunteers in Mission program, under the auspices of the General Board of Global Ministries, offers a wide variety of short-term opportunities to serve God by serving others, both in the United States and abroad.

Some in the Church today question the efficacy of short-term mission experiences. Couldn’t the money raised by mission teams go further if simply given to those being served? Does short-term mission create a culture of dependence? Do short-term mission teams do more harm than good? Certainly, these questions raise issues that should be considered carefully.

One convincing argument in favor of short-term mission, though, is the impact such trips can have on both the giver and receiver…and how often these roles end up being reversed. Participants often return from mission experiences convinced that they were blessed as much or more than the people they went to serve. These encounters can have a lasting effect that may very well change the course of a life.

So.....we go to Colombia for the very reasons metioned above.  We go to serve, we go to be in relationship, we go to make new friends...or for many of us, we go back to see old friends.....Most of all we go to glorfy God, to share his love and to recieve it....to be a blessing and revieve a blessing.
